High heels or flatties. Which do you prefer?

WELL did you all have a nice New Year?

Mine was pretty quiet. In fact I was more inclined to stay in, drink lots of red wine and keep warm than anything else.

Have you seen how desperate the shops are to get your money? January is always a good time to refresh your wardrobe with something from the sales, but with signs offering 70% off I'm itching to get out there and pick up that bargain pair of shoes.

Trouble is I haven't had chance yet. I hope all the good stuff hasn't gone before I do.

This is also the time of year I plan my annual trip to the Trafford Centre in Manchester with my sister.
Every year we go and stay for two or three nights in a nice hotel and shop till we drop.

Of course the current credit crunch has hit a lot of us hard and I'm no exception, but fortunately for me my birthday is in January so I just ask everyone for cash. Sales shopping and it's not even my own money ... heaven!

I'm definitely going to get myself a nice pair of heels. I don't hold with this idea that high heels are demeaning women a sex objects.

The notion was aired in a recent article which appeared on the Daily Mail Femail website. It posed the question: "Is wearing high heels really the best way for women to embrace their femininity?"

The answer, according to consultants from a top London law firm was, yes.
What the Mail did was ask five leading commentators whether or not they agreed.

And it made a very interesting read. With three out of the five women asked saying high heel empower a woman and I have to say I agree.

At a petite 5ft 2.5in, heels give me, not only additional height, but confidence too. They also help you to stand better and give an air of authority which is just not possible in a pair of flatties.

I certainly don't agree with one of the women questioned by the Mail, Liz Jones who states: "Very high shoes make you feel tired, depressed, desperately sore and powerless." What are you talking about woman?

Fay Weldon has the right idea. She says: "High heels feel like a symbol of the triumph of female selectivity, women's new power to pick and choose." That's more like it.
