Very Embarrassing

By Jan True on Sep 12, 08 11:05 AM

One trip and I'm doing a Linford Christie.

THERE'S nothing better than donning a nice pair of shoes in my book.
Just wearing them gives me an air of confidence I don't have in my bare feet.
Mind you I am only 5ft 2½ (the half an inch is very important as it makes me the tallest of three sisters!) so I tend to disappear when my heels are removed.

Embarrassingly, this always happened to me at the airport. Without fail everytime I go through security I beep. I'm then told to take off my shoes and send them through separately.

Wow betide anyone who gets in my way the other side when I'm clambering to get them back as quick as possible.

I've just returned from my summer holiday and yes it happened to me again. As soon as I went through security at Manchester Airport off went the beeper. Just my luck it's always a burly female security officer who does the search.

Of course, this isn't my only embarrassing moment with shoes. I'm particularly susceptible to Liverpool's wonky pavements.

I work in Old Hall Street and most days hike into town - usually on my way for a quick browse around a shoe shop or two - depending which shoes I have chosen to wear that day.

I don't know if other people working in Liverpool agree with me, but I find the pavements shocking in parts. Even the so called newly laid ones are so uneven you have to walk with the head firmly pointed down to try and avoid the inevitable trip.

I've often got the heel of my stiletto stuck between the paving flags which is not good for me or the shoe. On occasion I have been know to actually walk out of the said stuck shoe and done a rather unladylike impression of Linford Christie as I have sprinted forwarded at a rate of knots at times almost falling flat on my face!!

I always manage to compose myself but I know someone has just seen my antics and is having a right good laugh at my expense.

NB: I may spend my time treading carefully in my stilettos but spare a thought for the 265 women you took part in an 80metre track race in Australia earlier this month, all in their three-inch heels.

The event caused a few injures to runner and shoes but must have been a real sight to see. Mind you, you won't catch me doing a sprint in mine!
