The Same But Different

ON the whole my shoe collection is very varied. It's fair to say I'm a high heel girl at heart but I do possess some flat shoes and even some of those toe thong types although these always seem to give me blisters!. But I confess the majority are heeled court, open-toe court and sling-backs.

When I find a pair of shoes I like I have been known to buy the same pair in different colours. One in particular I've done this with proved to be a real good buy. Firstly, I bought the white strappy sandals a couple of summers ago and they were so comfortable that I went back to the shop the next day and bought the same pair in black and pale yellow. On the whole they have been great, although strangely enough the white ones have still always been the most comfortable. This is something I can never quite understand. Shoes are a bit like clothes in that not always the same size fits. I have been known to squeeze my size 4s into a size 3 but this usually has to be an open-toed style as courts can be just a bit to tight when my feet get hot. And here's something that I can never quite understand. I wouldn't dream of buying a pair of shoes without first trying them on so how come shoes which feel really comfortable when you try them on in the shop hurt like hell when you wear them on a night out for the first time? I'm off on my holidays soon and I always take a pair of flip-flops with me. They are great for long walks and you can get some really striking ones which look lovely on tanned feet. I'd probably pay up to about £15 for a pair so image my surprise when I saw an article recently listing the top ten flip-flops for this summer with the most expensive pair (pictured above) a jewel-encrusted number available from www.net-a-porter.com and priced at £415!! The caption read "from beach to bar and back to yacht", need I say more?
