No Hill's Too High For My Heels!

The Llangollen Balloon Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday August 30-31.

The impressive ruins of Castell Dinas Bran command spectacular views of Llangollen.

I WOULDN'T say I was an outdoor type but I do enjoy walking when the weather is nice.

In this country it's a bit hit and miss, but I remember being blessed with some rather fine weather while on a short break in Llangollen some years ago.

The Llangollen Balloon Festival takes place at the end of August/beginning of September every year and used to be a real treat.

We would go every year that we were able. In fact the only time we've missed it was when we were on our summer holiday abroad at the same time.

We usually go for a few days, so as well as enjoying the festival, we would spend some time in the town looking around the tourist shops and we would always visit my favourite, an old book shop.

One trip we never failed to make was the climb up the hill to the Castell Dinas Bran. This impossing ruin, towers high above the Dee Valley and the popular Welsh town of Llangollen.
The hillock was the ideal spot to erect a castle as it seemed completely impenetrable, commanded views for miles around. Yet, records show that the native Welsh princes of Powys occupied the hilltop for only a few decades.

Today, modern visitors like me, struggle to the summit and are rewarded with the magnificent views which make the climb well worth the effort. It's a beautiful walk on a nice day and the views are spectacular.

I bet you're wondering what all this has got to do with shoes but there is a connection, I promise.
You see the hill we climb is pretty steep and requires sensible shoes or even walking boots - something I promise I'm going to buy myself very soon.

Trouble is I don't really possess a pair of 'sensible' shoes, so it has to be heels every time.
I can honestly say I haven't had a problem, probably more though my determination to get to the top than anything else. But I have had a few funny looks on the way as I have totted over rocks and on the rough ground in my 3in heels!
