The Tutankhamun exhibition at the O2 in London finishes on Saturday, August 30.

The Terracotta Army exhibition at the British Museum has now finished but you can always take a trip to China to see the real thing now the Olympics are almost over.

The London Eye is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city.

EARLIER this year I went on a four-day trip to London with my family. I haven't been since I was 15 years old so as my son is now that age it seemed an appropriate time to go.

We had booked the Tutankhamun exhibition at the O2 and also the Terracotta Army at The British Museum but these weren't the only trips on the itinerary.

In fact it was a bit of a whistle-stop tour which wouldn't have been complete without a spot at a London shoe shop.

It was the last full day of our holiday and we were booked into the Tutankhamun exhibition that afternoon.

When we came out we were all really hungry so be decided to try a tapas bar at the O2. Lots of different dishes and a few glasses of red wine later and I suddenly realised that I still hadn't made it to Oxford Street.

I was happy not to have the full shopping hit as that wasn't the point of the visit, but I wasn't missing out on a call in at just one shoe shop.

It was 5pm when we got to Oxford Street and once I had spotted Faith Shoes there was no holding me back. I tried on a few pairs on the sale rack and opted for a black and white open-toe court with gold heel and under-sole. Very nice indeed, especially the price- £25. Told you I am a bargain hunter at heart.

Anyway, when I went to the counter to pay the assistant asked me if I would like the shoebox. "Yes," said I, to which she replied somewhat amazed, "You do?".

She then explained that I was the first person she had served who actually wanted the box as well.
"Every time I have asked that question I've always got the reply, 'You must be joking I'm on the Tube!'."

We had a right good natter after that. It turned out she was from Derby and was a shoe fanatic just like me. She said she had over 200 pairs of shoes at home but had only bought 50 with her when she moved to London.

Pity I didn't take her name and email address. She's love this blog.
